Organic Diet - Make the Change

An organic diet is a great way to improve one's general health. The biggest drawback however is the extra cost of buying organic foods. The added costs however do not literally mean organic food is more expensive, it is just that conventional organic diet is often produced by huge companies that receive different favors from the government. They receive billions of dollars worth of agriculture and energy subsidies that help them cut down the price of their produce. These subsidies are intended for research and development, environmental protection, employee benefits, and other good purposes but are often misused. Conventional farmers are also often underpaid.

An organic diet also allows you to enjoy better tasting foods. Organic foods were not exposed to any synthetic substances that hamper the production of nutrients in plants and animals. Organic produce therefore contain excessive amounts of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and antioxidants that give them a fresh and juicy taste. This claim has not yet been concluded because taste is a quality that is very hard to identify and measure. But its truth is being represented by the fact that more and more chefs from all over the world have started to use only organic ingredients.

An organic diet will also keep you away from GMOs or Genetically Modified Organisms. GMOs are products of genetic engineering in which the DNA of plants are altered to provide them with characteristics beneficial to the farmer such as increased resistance to diseases and increased yield. Genetic Engineering is still a new science and it has not been proven that it is completely safe. In fact, recent studies claim that GMOs pose substantial threats to the general health of anyone or anything that consumes them. They also disrupt the balance of the ecosystem in which they are in. They also hinder biodiversity and the natural flow of the biosphere. Organic meat is also free of artificial growth hormones and periodic injections of antibiotics.

An organic diet will also lead you towards supporting the funds of organic farmers. Organic agriculture is a product of continuous research and development conducted by producers who care for the welfare of the environment. The first organic farmers conducted studies in which they shouldered the expenses. They have pioneered organic diet research. Buying organic products will help provide organic workers with more resources to utilize in their quest to develop new innovations and improve current ones. Some universities have also put up their own organic research teams to help in the betterment of organic agriculture. Organic farming still has a long way to go, and the best you can do to help is to buy organic products.
